Ingredients

For the Rice
  • 1 cup White Medium Grain Rice Try brown rice for a whole grain option.
For the Gravy
  • 2 cups Beef Stock Vegetable broth is a great vegetarian alternative.
  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch Arrowroot serves well if you're out of cornstarch.
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder Fresh onions can work, but may alter texture.
  • 2 tablespoons Shoyu (Soy Sauce) Use tamari for a gluten-free option.
  • 1 tablespoon Beef Bouillon Paste For a non-meat version, use vegetable bouillon.
For the Patties
  • 1 pound Ground Beef Swap for ground turkey or plant-based meat for a lighter twist.
  • 1 egg Eggs Try tofu or avocado for a vegan alternative.
For Cooking
  • 1 tablespoon Cooking Oil Use coconut oil or olive oil for frying the eggs.

Equipment

  • Rice cooker
  • Medium saucepan
  • Skillet
  • Non-stick pan
  • Bowls

Method

Cooking Steps
  1. Rinse the rice under cool water until the water runs clear. Combine rice with 2 cups of water in a rice cooker and cook on the regular setting. Let it sit for 5 minutes to fluff up before serving.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, whisk together beef stock, cornstarch, onion powder, shoyu, and beef bouillon paste. Stir continuously until thickened, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in heavy cream.
  3. In a bowl, mix ground beef, egg, panko, ketchup, mayonnaise, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Form into 4 patties. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat, add oil, and cook the patties for about 5 minutes on each side until cooked through.
  4. In a separate non-stick pan, heat cooking oil over medium heat. Crack eggs into the pan and season lightly. Cook until whites are set and edges are crispy, about 2-3 minutes. For over-easy eggs, flip and cook for an additional 30 seconds.
  5. To plate, scoop a portion of rice onto a dish, place a burger patty on top, drizzle with gravy, and crown with an over-easy egg.
