Step-by-Step Instructions for Hasselback Potato Bugs
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking tray with aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
  2. Slice the potatoes into thin, even slices about 1/4 inch apart, leaving ½ inch unsliced at the bottom.
  3. Insert carrot sticks between the potato slices to mimic the legs of your creepy critters.
  4. Pierce the ends of each potato with a chopstick and insert shorter carrot sticks for antennae.
  5. Melt 1 tablespoon of salted butter and brush it over each potato, then bake for 8 minutes.
  6. Brush the potatoes with browning seasoning sauce or soy sauce and bake for another 8 minutes.
  7. Repeat the brushing with butter and seasoning, baking twice more for 8 minutes each time.
  8. Serve the cooled potatoes on a platter with mini bell peppers and carrot peels for decoration.
