Ingredients

For the Base
  • 1 cup Prunes Natural sweetness and moisture; dried figs can also be used for variation.
  • 1 cup Dried Apricots or Dates Provide texture and sweetness; dates are richer and divine!
  • 1 cup Dried Cranberries Adds tartness to balance the sweetness; consider dried cherries for a twist.
For the Crunch
  • 1 cup Toasted Almonds Adds a wonderful crunch and nuttiness; pecans or walnuts can be swapped if preferred.
  • 1 cup Toasted Pecans Contributes a rich, buttery flavor; feel free to use your favorite nut instead.
For Binding
  • 1/2 cup Cherry Jam Binds all ingredients while adding fruity notes; alternatively, raspberry or strawberry preserves work beautifully.
  • 1 tablespoon Orange Zest Offers a citrusy aroma that'll brighten the flavor; it's optional but highly recommended!
For Spice and Flavor
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon These warm spices enhance the holiday vibe; pumpkin spice mix is a great substitute.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
For Coating
  • 1/2 cup Coarse Sugar Adds sweetness and a delightful texture on the outside; coconut sugar is a healthier choice for coating.

Equipment

  • food processor
  • Baking Sheet
  • Cookie scoop

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions for Sugar Plums
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread the chopped almonds and pecans evenly on a baking sheet and toast them for 6-7 minutes until they become fragrant and lightly golden.
  2. While the nuts are toasting, finely chop the prunes, dried apricots (or dates), and dried cranberries on a clean cutting board.
  3. In a food processor, combine the finely chopped fruits and toasted nuts. Pulse the mixture until it reaches a sticky and finely combined consistency.
  4. To the mixture in the food processor, add the cherry jam, orange zest, and spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, ground cloves, and cardamom). Pulse until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  5. Using a 1 tablespoon cookie scoop, portion out the sticky mixture and carefully shape it into oval forms with your hands.
  6. For a creative touch, take a toothpick and gently create small indentations on each Sugar Plum.
  7. Roll each finished Sugar Plum in coarse sugar until they are fully coated.
