Ingredients
  

For the Crust
  • 1.5 cups crushed pretzels create that irresistible crunchy layer
  • 0.5 cups granulated sugar sweetens the crust
  • 0.75 cups unsalted butter melted
For the Filling
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 0.75 cups granulated sugar enhances the sweetness
  • 8 ounces frozen whipped topping thawed
For the Topping
  • 6 ounces strawberry gelatin mix the star of the show
  • 2 cups boiling water to dissolve the gelatin
  • 1 cup cold water to balance temperature
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries washed and sliced

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. Place 1 and 1 half cups of pretzels in a resealable bag and crush them into coarse crumbs.
  3. Add 1 half cup of granulated sugar and 3 quarters cup of melted butter to the crushed pretzels and mix.
  4. Press the pretzel mixture into the prepared baking dish and bake for 10 minutes.
  5. Allow to cool completely on a cooling rack for about 30 minutes.
  6. In a mixing bowl, combine 8 ounces of softened cream cheese and 3 quarters cup of granulated sugar, and beat until smooth.
  7. Fold in 8 ounces of thawed whipped topping until smooth.
  8. Spread the cream cheese filling over the cooled pretzel crust.
  9. In a large heatproof bowl, dissolve 6 ounces of strawberry gelatin in 2 cups of boiling water.
  10. Stir in 1 cup of cold water.
  11. Wash and slice 2 cups of strawberries, and combine them with the cooled gelatin.
  12. Spoon the gelatin mixture over the cream cheese layer and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
  13. For best results, refrigerate overnight, then cut into 12 squares.
