Ingredients

For the Filling
  • 1 pound Ground beef or thinly sliced steak
  • 1 cup Fresh Thai basil
  • 3 tablespoons Soy sauce low-sodium recommended
  • 1 tablespoon Chili sauce or fresh chilis to taste
For the Wrapping
  • 8 sheets Rice paper wrappers soaked in warm water
For the Crunch
  • 1 cup Vegetables e.g., bell peppers, carrots

Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Shallow dish

Method

Directions
  1. In a skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef or sliced steak, seasoning it with soy sauce and chili sauce. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally until the meat is browned and fully cooked.
  2. While the beef is cooking, fill a shallow dish with warm water. Dip each rice paper wrapper into the water for about 10-15 seconds or until pliable. Lay the wrappers out flat on a clean surface.
  3. Place a fresh basil leaf in the center of each softened rice paper wrapper. Spoon a small amount of the beef mixture on top of the basil, along with some crunchy vegetables.
  4. To form the rolls, fold the sides of the rice paper over the filling, then tightly roll from the bottom to the top. Complete this process for all fillings.
  5. Once wrapped, arrange the rolls on a serving platter. They can be enjoyed fresh or served with a dipping sauce.
