Prepare Your Tools
- Preheat a nonstick frying pan over medium-low heat.
- Lightly grease the heart-shaped cookie cutters with non-stick spray or butter.
2. Cut the Bread
- Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut a heart shape in the center of each slice of bread. Save the cutouts for toasting as a side.
3. Toast the Bread
- Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in the frying pan.
- Place the bread slices in the pan and toast one side until golden brown, about 2–3 minutes. Flip the bread.
4. Cook the Eggs
- Crack an egg into the heart-shaped cutout in the bread. Season with salt and pepper.
- Cover the pan and cook over medium-low heat for 4–5 minutes, or until the egg white is set. If desired, gently flip the bread to cook the top side.
5. Toast the Heart Cutouts
- Toast the heart-shaped bread cutouts in the same pan until golden brown on both sides.
6. Assemble and Serve
- Arrange the heart-shaped egg-in-toast and cutouts on a plate. Garnish with fresh berries, herbs, or other toppings.
- Serve warm with coffee, tea, or fresh juice.
Notes
- Customize the Toppings: Add shredded cheese, bacon bits, or diced vegetables for extra flavor.
- Use Different Bread: Sourdough, brioche, or whole wheat bread work well for this recipe.
- Make It Sweet: Drizzle with honey or sprinkle powdered sugar for a sweet twist.
