Ingredients

  • 2 pounds lean ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • 1 10.75-ounce can condensed tomato soup
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar or adjust to taste
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 8 whole-grain hamburger buns toasted (optional)

Method

Brown the Ground Beef
  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and cook the lean ground beef or turkey until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  2. Drain any excess grease to keep the dish light.
Cook the Vegetables
  1. Add chopped celery and onion to the skillet.
  2. Cover and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are tender.
Make the Sauce
  1. Stir in condensed tomato soup, ketchup, brown sugar, white vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and garlic powder.
  2. Mix until well combined.
Simmer the Mixture
  1. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally to allow the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken.
Assemble and Serve
  1. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto toasted hamburger buns.
  2. Serve immediately with your favorite sides.
