  • Sesame seeds for garnish
  • Optional vegetables: steamed broccoli carrots, bell peppers, or spinach
  • Optional toppings: kimchi sliced cucumber, pickled radish, or a fried egg

Method

Cook the Rice:
  1. Stovetop: Rinse 1 cup of rice under cold water, then combine with 2 cups of water in a pot. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes. Let sit for 5 minutes, then fluff.
  2. Rice Cooker: Follow your cooker’s instructions for perfectly steamed rice.
  3. Instant Pot: Combine 1 cup of rinsed rice with 1 cup of water. Cook on high pressure for 3 minutes, then allow a natural release.
Brown the Ground Beef:
  1. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula, and cook until browned (about 5-7 minutes). Drain excess fat if necessary.
Add Aromatics:
  1. Stir in minced garlic and ginger. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
Season the Beef:
  1. Add soy sauce, sesame oil, and green onions. Mix well and simmer for 2-3 minutes to let the flavors meld. Adjust salt and pepper as needed.
Assemble the Bowl:
  1. Add a base of cooked rice to each bowl.
  2. Top with the seasoned ground beef.
  3. Add optional vegetables like steamed broccoli, sliced cucumber, or spinach.
  4. Garnish with sesame seeds, extra green onions, and a fried egg if desired.

Notes

  • Use fresh aromatics like garlic, ginger, and green onions for the best flavor.
  • Customize with your favorite veggies and toppings to make the dish your own.
  • Make it gluten-free by swapping soy sauce for tamari or coconut aminos.
