Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 medium jalapeño finely chopped (seeds removed for less heat)
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil for cooking
  • 4 whole wheat burger buns
  • Lettuce tomato, and avocado for toppings

Method
 

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, cheddar cheese, chopped jalapeño, breadcrumbs, cilantro, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.
  2. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 3/4 inch thick.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties to the skillet. Cook for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  4. While the burgers are cooking, toast the burger buns in a separate skillet or under the broiler until golden brown.
  5. Assemble the burgers by placing a patty on each bun and topping with lettuce, tomato, and avocado as desired. Serve immediately.
