Easy Homemade Apple Fritters – Just Like a Bakery!

Craving a bakery-style apple fritter at home? These homemade apple fritters are crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy inside, and packed with juicy apples and warm cinnamon spice. Finished with a sweet vanilla glaze, they’re the perfect breakfast treat or dessert!

Ingredients
  

For the Apple Fritters:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • cups diced apples Granny Smith or Honeycrisp
  • Vegetable oil for frying
For the Glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 –3 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Method
 

Prepare the Batter:
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter until smooth.
  3. Mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined.
  4. Fold in the diced apples.
Heat the Oil:
  1. In a deep skillet or Dutch oven, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Use a candy thermometer to maintain the temperature.
Fry the Apple Fritters:
  1. Drop small mounds of batter into the hot oil using a spoon.
  2. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, turning once, until golden brown.
  3. Remove and place on a paper towel-lined plate.
Make the Glaze:
  1. Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Glaze and Serve:
  1. Dip warm fritters into the glaze or drizzle it on top.
  2. Let sit for a few minutes, then enjoy warm!

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, fry in small batches.
  • For a cinnamon-sugar coating, roll fritters in cinnamon sugar instead of glazing.
  • To store, keep in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
