Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for cream cheese filling

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  6. In another bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth.
  7. Take a small portion of the cookie dough and flatten it into a rectangle. Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center and fold the dough over to encase the filling. Twist the dough gently to create a spiral shape.
  8. Place the twists on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
