Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water about 110°F
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup Italian sausage cooked and crumbled
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 bell pepper diced
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms

Method

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and sugar. In a separate small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour mixture. Stir until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat the oven to 425°F. Grease a 12-inch deep dish pizza pan or cast-iron skillet.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a large circle, then transfer it to the prepared pan, pressing it up the sides.
  6. Layer the mozzarella cheese evenly across the bottom of the crust. Add the cooked sausage, bell pepper, onion, and mushrooms.
  7. Pour the marinara sauce over the toppings, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, oregano, and garlic powder.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
  9. Let the pizza cool for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
