Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups green beans drained and cut; canned, thawed frozen, or fresh steamed all work 10.75 oz condensed cream of mushroom soup 2–3 cups shredded cheddar cheese (1 cup for the mixture, remaining for topping) 2 cloves garlic, minced 2 teaspoons onion powder (optional) 10 oz cheddar-flavored French Fried onions

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF (175ºC).
  2. In a large bowl, combine green beans, cream of mushroom soup, 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, minced garlic, and onion powder. Mix well.
  3. Pour the mixture into a 9x13-inch casserole dish and spread evenly.
  4. Top with the remaining shredded cheddar cheese.
  5. Bake uncovered for 30 minutes, or until the casserole is hot and bubbly.
  6. Remove from oven, sprinkle French Fried onions on top, and return to the oven for another 5–10 minutes, until the topping is golden brown.

Notes

  • You can prepare the mixture a day in advance and refrigerate. Just add the cheese topping and fried onions before baking.
  • Try adding sautéed mushrooms or caramelized onions for extra depth of flavor.
  • For a spicier twist, mix in a pinch of cayenne or crushed red pepper flakes.
