Ingredients
1 lb ground chicken
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with
2 tablespoons water
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
1/4 cup water
2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish) Steamed rice, for serving
Instructions
-
Heat sesame oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the garlic and ginger, sautéing for 30 seconds until fragrant.
-
Add the ground chicken and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and fully cooked through—about 5–7 minutes.
-
In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, water, and red pepper flakes.
-
Pour the sauce into the skillet with the chicken. Stir and bring to a simmer.
-
Add the cornstarch slurry to the pan and continue cooking until the sauce thickens and coats the chicken, about 2–3 minutes.
-
Serve hot over steamed rice and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds if desired.
Notes
-
This dish is perfect for meal prep—store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
-
Want more veggies? Stir in steamed broccoli or snap peas before serving.
-
Adjust the sweetness and spice to your liking by tweaking the brown sugar and red pepper flakes.
-
Ground turkey or pork works well as a substitute for ground chicken.
