Soft, buttery, and bursting with garlic flavor, these homemade garlic Parmesan knots are a perfect snack, appetizer, or side dish. Paired with marinara sauce, they’re a comforting treat that everyone will love.

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (375 g)
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

For the Garlic Butter Topping:

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (60 g)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried parsley)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For Serving:

  • Marinara sauce

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough:

    • In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
    • Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5–7 minutes, or use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 4–5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  • Let the Dough Rise:

    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  • Shape the Knots:

    • Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
    • Roll each piece into a rope about 6–8 inches long. Tie each rope into a loose knot and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
    • Cover with a towel and let rise for 30 minutes.
  • Bake the Knots:

    • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • Bake the knots for 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Prepare the Garlic Butter:

    • In a small bowl, mix melted butter, minced garlic, parsley, and salt.
    • Brush the warm knots generously with the garlic butter topping as soon as they come out of the oven.
  • Serve and Enjoy:

    • Serve the knots warm with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Use warm water (not hot) to activate the yeast.
  • For extra flavor, sprinkle the knots with grated Parmesan before baking.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
