Description

Cabbage Burgers are a delicious and healthy alternative to traditional burgers, wrapped in tender cabbage leaves and filled with a savory meat mixture.

Ingredients

  • 2 large heads of green cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. Remove the core from the cabbage heads and carefully peel off 12 large leaves. Blanch the leaves in boiling water for about 2-3 minutes until softened, then drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef or turkey, sautéed onion and garlic, shredded cheese, salt, pepper, paprika, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, and thyme. Mix until well combined.
  5. Lay a cabbage leaf flat and place about 2-3 tablespoons of the meat mixture in the center. Fold the sides of the leaf over the filling, then roll it up from the bottom to the top, securing the filling inside. Repeat with the remaining leaves and filling.
  6. Place the cabbage burgers seam-side down in a baking dish. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25-30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the meat is cooked through and the tops are slightly browned.
  7. Let the cabbage burgers cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add a teaspoon of red pepper flakes to the meat mixture.
  • You can also substitute ground beef with cooked quinoa for a vegetarian option.
