Description

A delicious and flavorful Sweet and Sour Beef recipe that combines tender beef sirloin with vibrant vegetables and a tangy sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup bell pepper, chopped (any color)
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 cup pineapple chunks (fresh or canned)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ginger powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooked rice for serving

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine soy sauce, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, garlic powder, ginger powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Whisk until well blended.
  2. In a large skillet or wok, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the sliced beef and cook until browned, about 3-4 minutes. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and bell pepper. Stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until they start to soften.
  4. Add the pineapple chunks to the skillet and stir to combine. Return the beef to the skillet.
  5. Pour the sauce mixture over the beef and vegetables. Stir well to coat everything evenly.
  6. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water to create a slurry. Add this to the skillet and stir until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
  7. Serve the sweet and sour beef over cooked rice.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add a teaspoon of red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce to the sauce mixture.
  • Substitute the beef with chicken or tofu for a different protein option. Adjust cooking times accordingly.
