Description

A delicious recipe for spiced meat-stuffed pitas filled with flavorful ground beef or lamb, perfect for a quick meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef or lamb
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 4 pita bread rounds
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup plain yogurt (for serving)
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil and sauté the chopped onion until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  2. Add the ground beef or lamb to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
  3. Stir in the cumin, coriander, paprika, cinnamon, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the spices are well combined and fragrant. Remove from heat and stir in the chopped parsley. Allow the mixture to cool slightly.
  4. Preheat your grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. While it heats, take each pita round and cut a pocket into the side.
  5. Stuff each pita with the meat mixture, pressing gently to ensure the filling is packed in.
  6. Place the stuffed pitas on the grill and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the pitas are golden and slightly crispy.
  7. Remove from the grill and let cool for a minute. Serve warm with plain yogurt and lemon wedges on the side.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian option, substitute the meat with a mixture of cooked lentils and diced vegetables.
  • Add sliced cucumbers and tomatoes inside the pita for extra freshness and crunch.
