Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Powdered sugar (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Mix Wet Ingredients:
    • In a medium bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, vanilla extract, and melted butter until fully blended.
  2. Add Dry Ingredients:
    • Stir in the salt, baking soda, and sugar. Gradually fold in the flour, mixing until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.
  3. Prepare Batter Bag:
    • Pour the batter into a gallon-sized Ziplock bag. Seal tightly and set aside while heating the oil.
  4. Heat the Oil:
    • Fill a frying pan with vegetable oil to about 1/2 inch depth. Heat the oil on high for 2 minutes, then reduce to medium heat.
    • Test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter. If it bubbles around the edges, the oil is ready.
  5. Fry the Bites:
    • Cut a small hole in one corner of the Ziplock bag. Gently drizzle the batter into the hot oil, forming small circles or squiggles.
    • Fry until golden brown on one side, then flip using a slotted spatula. Cook until golden brown on the other side.
  6. Drain and Sprinkle:
    • Remove the bites from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
    • Sprinkle generously with powdered sugar while still warm.
  7. Serve:
    • Serve the funnel cake bites warm with optional toppings like whipped cream, fresh fruit, or chocolate drizzle.
