Description
The Patty Melt is a hearty, comforting meal with juicy beef patties, melted cheese, and crispy, buttery rye bread. This quick and easy recipe delivers all the classic diner flavors in less time, making it perfect for busy weeknight dinners.
Ingredients
Bread and Butter:
- 6 slices rye bread
- 6 tablespoons softened butter
Beef Patties:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 3/4 tsp ground black pepper
- 1/2 tsp sea salt
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
Special Sauce:
- 3 tbsp mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp bacon bits
- 1 tsp sweet relish
- 1 tsp sugar
Cheese and Assembly:
- 6 slices cheddar cheese
- 6 slices Provolone cheese
Instructions
- Prepare the Beef Patties:
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, black pepper, sea salt, and onion powder. Shape into three patties, ensuring they are about the same size as the bread slices. Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 2-3 minutes on each side, then reduce the heat and continue cooking for 5 more minutes until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C). - Make the Special Sauce:
In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, bacon bits, sweet relish, and sugar. Stir until smooth and set aside. - Assemble the Patty Melt:
Butter one side of each slice of rye bread. Heat a skillet over medium-low heat. Place one slice of bread, butter-side down, in the skillet. Top with two slices of cheddar cheese, a beef patty, and two slices of Provolone cheese. Spread the special sauce on the unbuttered side of another slice of bread, then place it sauce-side down on top. - Toast to Perfection:
Cook the sandwich for 2-3 minutes on each side until the bread is golden and the cheese is melted. Repeat with the remaining sandwiches.
Notes
- Use rye bread for the classic flavor, or try sourdough or brioche for a twist.
- Ensure the heat is medium-low to prevent burning the bread while toasting.
- For variations, try turkey patties or plant-based options for a lighter or vegetarian version.
