A delicious recipe for Pretzel-Crusted Chicken served with a creamy Mustard Cheddar Sauce.
Ingredients
- 2 large chicken breasts (about 1 pound total)
- 1 cup crushed pretzels
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter (for sauce)
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour (for sauce)
- 1 cup milk (for sauce)
- 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese (for sauce)
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard (for sauce)
- Salt and pepper to taste (for sauce)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a shallow bowl, combine crushed pretzels, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- In another bowl, place the flour.
- In a third bowl, beat the eggs.
- Coat each chicken breast in flour, shaking off the excess.
- Dip the chicken into the beaten eggs, then press into the pretzel mixture until well coated.
- Place the coated chicken on the prepared baking sheet.
- Drizzle the olive oil over the chicken.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the coating is golden brown.
- While the chicken is baking, prepare the mustard cheddar sauce by melting butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Gradually add the milk, whisking constantly until the mixture thickens.
- Remove from heat and stir in the cheddar cheese and Dijon mustard until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve the pretzel-crusted chicken hot, drizzled with mustard cheddar sauce.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add cayenne pepper to the pretzel mixture.
- Substitute the chicken with pork chops or tofu for a different protein option.
