Description

Patriotic Sugar Cookie Bars are a festive and simple treat perfect for celebrations, featuring a soft and chewy texture topped with colorful sprinkles.

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (2 sticks)
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 cup red and blue sprinkles (or colored sugar)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter mixture and mix until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the red and blue sprinkles.
  6. Spread the cookie dough evenly into the prepared baking pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cookie bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then lift them out using the parchment paper (if used) and let them cool completely on a wire rack.
  8. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Once the cookie bars are completely cool, drizzle the frosting over the top.
  9. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

  • This recipe makes 24 cookie bars.
  • For a fun twist, try adding lemon or orange zest to the dough for a citrus flavor.
  • You can also substitute the sprinkles with chocolate chips or nuts for a different texture.
