Description

Sweet, spicy, and irresistibly crispy, this Oven-Baked Crunchy Hot Honey Chicken is a healthier take on fried chicken. Coated in a crunchy cornflake crust and drizzled with homemade hot honey sauce, it’s the perfect comfort food for any occasion.

Ingredients

For the Chicken:

  • 3 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1 1/2 lbs)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Nonstick cooking spray

Flour Mixture:

  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar

Egg Mixture:

  • 3 large eggs, whisked
  • 2 teaspoons hot sauce

Breading Mixture:

  • 5 cups crushed cornflakes
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Hot Honey Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup hot sauce
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder

Instructions

  • Prepare Ingredients
    • Crush cornflakes and place in a shallow bowl.
    • Set up three shallow bowls for the flour mixture, egg mixture, and breading mixture.
    • Slice each chicken breast in half lengthwise and pound to 1/2-inch thickness. Season with salt and pepper.
    • Preheat oven to 425°F (218°C).
  • Bread the Chicken
    • Coat chicken pieces in the flour mixture, ensuring all sides are covered.
    • Dip into the egg mixture, letting excess drip off.
    • Press chicken into the breading mixture to coat evenly. For extra crunch, repeat the egg and breading steps.
    • Place chicken on a lightly greased baking sheet or an oven-safe cooling rack set over the baking sheet. Lightly spray with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Bake the Chicken
    • Bake for 15-16 minutes, or until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  • Make the Hot Honey Sauce
    • Combine all sauce ingredients in a small saucepan over low heat.
    • Stir until the butter is melted, bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to keep warm.
  • Finish and Serve
    • Drizzle hot honey sauce over the baked chicken.
    • Serve immediately with additional sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • For gluten-free chicken, use gluten-free flour and cornflakes.
  • Adjust the spice level by increasing or reducing the cayenne and hot sauce.
  • For best texture, serve immediately after baking.
