Description

Jamaican Beef Patties are a delicious and savory pastry filled with seasoned ground beef, perfect for a snack or meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons breadcrumbs
  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts (2 crusts)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in the thyme, paprika, allspice, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Mix well and cook for another minute.
  5. Pour in the beef broth and stir in the breadcrumbs. Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
  6. Roll out the pie crusts on a lightly floured surface. Cut out circles using a 5-inch round cutter.
  7. Place about 2 tablespoons of the beef mixture in the center of each circle. Fold the crust over to create a half-moon shape and crimp the edges with a fork to seal.
  8. Place the patties on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with the beaten egg.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add diced jalapeños to the beef mixture.
  • You can also substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • Serve with a side of mango salsa for a refreshing contrast.
