Description

Soft, sweet Hawaiian rolls are transformed into golden bites of French toast perfection with this quick and easy recipe. Ideal for busy mornings or relaxed brunches, these cinnamon-vanilla-infused rolls are a crowd-pleaser that pairs beautifully with fresh fruit, syrup, or a dusting of powdered sugar.

Ingredients

For the French Toast

  • 12 Hawaiian sweet rolls, halved (24 pieces)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup half & half
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp butter (for cooking)

For Toppings

  • Maple syrup
  • Powdered sugar
  • Fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
  • Optional: Chopped nuts, whipped cream, or shredded coconut

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Rolls

  1. Slice each Hawaiian roll in half and set aside on a plate.

Step 2: Make the Batter

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, half & half, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth.

Step 3: Preheat the Skillet

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and melt 1 tbsp of butter, ensuring it coats the pan evenly.

Step 4: Dip and Cook

  1. Dip each roll half into the batter, ensuring both sides are coated. Let any excess batter drip off.
  2. Place the coated rolls in the skillet in a single layer (work in batches if needed).
  3. Cook for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown. Add more butter as necessary for subsequent batches.

Step 5: Serve

  1. Transfer the cooked French toast rolls to a serving platter.
  2. Top with your favorite toppings like syrup, powdered sugar, and fresh berries.
