Description

Garlic Naan is a delicious Indian flatbread infused with garlic and served warm, perfect for pairing with various dishes.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)
  • Butter or ghee for brushing

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Mix well.
  2. Add the yogurt and warm water to the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough begins to form.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rest for at least 1 hour at room temperature.
  5. After resting, divide the dough into 6 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball.
  6. Roll out each ball into an oval or round shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Heat a cast-iron skillet or non-stick pan over medium-high heat.
  8. Place one rolled-out naan in the hot skillet. Cook for about 1-2 minutes until bubbles form on the surface.
  9. Flip the naan and cook for another 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Remove from the skillet and brush with melted butter or ghee. Sprinkle with minced garlic and cilantro if desired.
  11. Repeat with the remaining dough. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use yogurt made from whole milk.
  • Add spices like cumin or coriander to the dough for an extra kick.
