Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for greasing the bowl)
- 1 tablespoon butter (for brushing on top)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
- Add the melted butter, egg, and the yeast mixture to the flour. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
- Shape each piece into a ball and place them in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and brush with melted butter before serving.
Notes
- For a garlic flavor, add 1 teaspoon of garlic powder to the dough or brush the tops with garlic butter before serving.
- For a sweeter roll, add 1/4 cup of honey or maple syrup to the dough for a hint of sweetness.
