Craving a bakery-style apple fritter at home? These homemade apple fritters are crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy inside, and packed with juicy apples and warm cinnamon spice. Finished with a sweet vanilla glaze, they’re the perfect breakfast treat or dessert!
Ingredients
For the Apple Fritters:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ⅓ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup whole milk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
- 1½ cups diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
For the Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tbsp milk
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare the Batter:
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In a separate bowl, beat eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter until smooth.
- Mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined.
- Fold in the diced apples.
- Heat the Oil:
- In a deep skillet or Dutch oven, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Use a candy thermometer to maintain the temperature.
- Fry the Apple Fritters:
- Drop small mounds of batter into the hot oil using a spoon.
- Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, turning once, until golden brown.
- Remove and place on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Make the Glaze:
- Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Glaze and Serve:
- Dip warm fritters into the glaze or drizzle it on top.
- Let sit for a few minutes, then enjoy warm!
Notes
- For extra crispiness, fry in small batches.
- For a cinnamon-sugar coating, roll fritters in cinnamon sugar instead of glazing.
- To store, keep in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
