Craving a bakery-style apple fritter at home? These homemade apple fritters are crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy inside, and packed with juicy apples and warm cinnamon spice. Finished with a sweet vanilla glaze, they’re the perfect breakfast treat or dessert!

Ingredients

For the Apple Fritters:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1½ cups diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Prepare the Batter:
    • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
    • In a separate bowl, beat eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter until smooth.
    • Mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined.
    • Fold in the diced apples.
  • Heat the Oil:
    • In a deep skillet or Dutch oven, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
    • Use a candy thermometer to maintain the temperature.
  • Fry the Apple Fritters:
    • Drop small mounds of batter into the hot oil using a spoon.
    • Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, turning once, until golden brown.
    • Remove and place on a paper towel-lined plate.
  • Make the Glaze:
    • Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Glaze and Serve:
    • Dip warm fritters into the glaze or drizzle it on top.
    • Let sit for a few minutes, then enjoy warm!

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, fry in small batches.
  • For a cinnamon-sugar coating, roll fritters in cinnamon sugar instead of glazing.
  • To store, keep in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
