Ingredients
Steak Bites:
- 1 lb (450 g) sirloin steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1 tsp dried rosemary
- Salt and pepper to taste
Creamy Mash:
- 2 lbs (900 g) potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1/2 cup milk
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Creamy Mash:
- Place the peeled and cubed potatoes in a large pot, covering them with cold water and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 15 minutes, or until fork-tender.
- Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add milk and butter, then mash until smooth and creamy. Adjust the consistency with more milk if needed. Season with salt and pepper and keep warm.
- Cook the Steak Bites:
- Cut the sirloin steak into bite-sized pieces and season generously with salt and pepper.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add steak bites in batches, cooking for 2-3 minutes per side for medium-rare or longer for desired doneness. Set aside.
- Make the Garlic Butter Sauce:
- In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium and add minced garlic, cooking for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add butter, thyme, and rosemary, stirring until the butter melts and the herbs are well mixed.
- Return steak bites to the skillet and toss them in the garlic butter sauce. Cook for an additional minute to heat through.
- Plate and Serve:
- Serve a scoop of creamy mashed potatoes on each plate.
- Top with garlic butter steak bites and drizzle with remaining garlic butter sauce. Garnish with fresh parsley or grated Parmesan.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, try using ribeye or tenderloin instead of sirloin.
- To avoid overcooking, sear steak bites in batches and let them rest briefly before serving.
- Keep mashed potatoes warm by covering the pot or placing it in a low-heat oven.
