Description

This Cheesy Green Bean Casserole is the ultimate comfort side dish — creamy, cheesy, and crowned with a golden layer of crunchy fried onions. It’s a nostalgic holiday classic with a melty cheddar twist that makes every bite irresistible. Whether you’re serving it at Thanksgiving or craving cozy vibes on a weeknight, this easy-bake dish brings warmth to the table with minimal effort.

Ingredients

4 cups green beans (drained and cut; canned, thawed frozen, or fresh steamed all work)
10.75 oz condensed cream of mushroom soup
23 cups shredded cheddar cheese (1 cup for the mixture, remaining for topping)
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 teaspoons onion powder (optional)
10 oz cheddar-flavored French Fried onions

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350ºF (175ºC).

  • In a large bowl, combine green beans, cream of mushroom soup, 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, minced garlic, and onion powder. Mix well.

  • Pour the mixture into a 9×13-inch casserole dish and spread evenly.

  • Top with the remaining shredded cheddar cheese.

  • Bake uncovered for 30 minutes, or until the casserole is hot and bubbly.

  • Remove from oven, sprinkle French Fried onions on top, and return to the oven for another 5–10 minutes, until the topping is golden brown.

  • Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can prepare the mixture a day in advance and refrigerate. Just add the cheese topping and fried onions before baking.

  • Try adding sautéed mushrooms or caramelized onions for extra depth of flavor.

  • For a spicier twist, mix in a pinch of cayenne or crushed red pepper flakes.
