Description

A perfect blend of sweet and salty, these Caramelized Pretzels with Toffee Crunch are a delightful treat featuring crispy pretzels coated in buttery caramel and sprinkled with Heath bits. Perfect for gifting, snacking, or any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 (16 oz) bag pretzel snaps
  • 2/3 cup butter
  • 1 1/4 cups brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 (8 oz) bag Heath bits
  • 1/4 cup roasted peanuts, finely chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C).
    • Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare the Toffee Coating:
    • In a small saucepan, combine butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup.
    • Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture comes to a boil.
    • Let the mixture boil for 2-3 minutes without stirring.
    • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and baking soda. The mixture will foam up, creating a light texture.
  3. Coat the Pretzels:
    • Place the pretzel snaps in a large mixing bowl.
    • Pour the warm toffee mixture over the pretzels and gently stir to coat them evenly.
  4. Add Heath Bits:
    • Sprinkle the Heath bits into the bowl and stir until they’re evenly distributed over the caramel-coated pretzels.
  5. Bake the Pretzels:
    • Spread the coated pretzels evenly on the prepared baking sheet.
    • Bake for 45 minutes, stirring halfway through to ensure even coating and crispiness.
  6. Optional Additions:
    • After baking, sprinkle finely chopped roasted peanuts over the warm pretzels and toss gently to combine.
  7. Cool and Store:
    • Allow the pretzels to cool completely on the baking sheet.
    • Once cooled, break into bite-sized pieces and store in an airtight container to maintain freshness.

Notes

  • Ensure the pretzels are evenly coated with the caramel mixture for the best texture.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to a week, or freeze for longer storage.
  • Try mixing in chocolate chips, shredded coconut, or crushed candies for added variety.
