Description
This blackened salmon is seared to perfection with a bold, smoky spice rub that brings restaurant-level flavor straight to your kitchen. Ready in under 15 minutes, it’s a high-protein, omega-rich meal that pairs beautifully with fresh greens, roasted veggies, or a simple grain bowl.
Ingredients
12 to 16 oz salmon filet (skin-on or skin-off)
2 tbsp avocado oil (or substitute olive, canola, walnut, or grapeseed oil)
1/4 tsp onion powder
3/4 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp paprika
1 tsp smoked paprika
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
-
In a small bowl, mix all the spices to create your blackening seasoning.
-
Pat the salmon dry with a paper towel. Rub the seasoning blend evenly over one side of the filet (use the flesh side if skin-on).
-
Heat the oil in a non-stick or cast iron pan over medium-high heat.
-
Carefully place the salmon in the pan, seasoned side down. Sear for 1 to 2 minutes without moving it.
-
Flip the salmon and cook the other side for 3 to 4 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F.
-
Remove from the pan and serve immediately with your choice of sides.
Notes
This recipe works best with fresh salmon, but thawed frozen salmon also cooks well.
Use a meat thermometer for best results to avoid overcooking.
Pair with a citrus slaw, quinoa, or avocado salad for a balanced meal.
The blackened spice blend can be doubled and stored for later use on shrimp or chicken.
