Ingredients
For the Dip
- 16 oz (1 package) sour cream
- 8 oz (1 package) cream cheese, softened
- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, grated
- 1 cup diced ham
- 4–6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 1 tablespoon hot sauce
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
For the Bread Bowl
- 1 large loaf of French bread
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (optional)
For Garnish and Serving
- 2 tablespoons green onions, chopped
- Crackers, sliced veggies, or extra bread pieces
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Bread Bowl
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Using a serrated knife, cut a large circle into the top of the French bread loaf. Remove the top and hollow out the inside, leaving enough bread to form a sturdy shell. Save the removed bread pieces for dipping.
Step 2: Make the Dip Mixture
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine the sour cream and softened cream cheese. Stir until smooth.
- Add the grated cheddar cheese, diced ham, crumbled bacon, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix thoroughly to combine.
Step 3: Assemble the Bread Bowl
- Spoon the prepared dip mixture into the hollowed-out bread bowl.
- Brush the edges of the bread bowl with melted butter for extra golden color (optional).
- Wrap the entire bread bowl in aluminum foil to prevent over-browning.
Step 4: Bake the Dip
- Place the wrapped bread bowl on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 35 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the top of the dip is golden and bubbly.
Step 5: Garnish and Serve
- Remove the bread bowl from the oven and garnish with chopped green onions for a fresh finish.
- Serve warm with crackers, sliced vegetables, or reserved bread pieces for dipping.
Notes
- Prevent Soggy Bread: Brush the inside of the bread bowl with melted butter before filling to create a barrier.
- Customize the Heat: Add diced jalapeños or more hot sauce for extra spice.
- Use Quality Cheese: Freshly grated cheddar melts better and enhances flavor.
- Skip the Bread Bowl: Bake the dip in a casserole dish for an easier serving option.
