Description
Apple Fritter Waffle Donuts are a delightful twist on traditional donuts, combining the flavors of apple fritters with the texture of waffles.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup peeled and diced apples (about 1 medium apple)
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
- Oil for frying (for the glaze)
- For the glaze: 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until well combined.
- In another bowl, mix the milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Gently fold in the diced apples and nuts if using.
- Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Lightly grease it with cooking spray or oil.
- Pour enough batter into the waffle iron to cover the surface, close the lid, and cook until golden brown (about 3-5 minutes). Repeat with the remaining batter.
- While the waffles are cooking, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth.
- Once the waffles are done, remove them from the waffle iron and let them cool slightly. Dip the tops into the glaze and let the excess drip off.
- Serve warm and enjoy your delicious apple fritter waffle donuts!
Notes
- For a spicier flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg or ginger to the batter.
- Try substituting the apples with pears or peaches for a different fruity twist.
